Luke's interest in airplanes goes back as far as he can remember, but it probably started while watching the local crop duster spray the fields around his house as a kid. After graduating from high school he went into the Marine Corps Reserve. After completing boot camp and MOS school, he began flying lessons at Reliant Aviation in Albany Oregon where he earned his PPL in 1992.

About that time he joined the EAA (EAA 489858), got interested in homebuilt airplanes, and started building a plane with his brother. Life, marriage, and kids pushed the plane to the back burner for a while. Then in 2003, he started Classic Aero Designs as a way to get back into airplanes and flying. 10 years after starting the business, he finally got back in flying again, and not long after that started another homebuilt project. He now rents a 150 from the local FBO occasionally, and works on the plane project when the business allows.
